Gerakan Selangor State Liaison Committee Chairman Datuk David Ang Chin Tat said Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng need to explain the continued cooperation between Pakatan Harapan (PH) state governments with PAS in both states. He slammed the current political practice in both states is not in line with the recent decision by PH Presidential Council to reject cooperation with PAS in the 14th General Election (GE-14).
David Ang slammed the decision as a smokescreen to mislead non-Malay voters, especially in Selangor and Penang into supporting PH. He noted that PAS had previously clarified it never intended to work with PH in the GE-14 since the collapse of Pakatan Rakyat in June, 2015. It has always been PH who was courting PAS to form an electoral pact and avoid 3-cornered fights.
He criticised there was no strong conviction nor sincerity in PH to uphold the decision as current PH state governments in Selangor and Penang are allowed to continue cooperation with PAS. He said outrageous excuses had been given by PH leaders in the past to rationalize its actions, it is not surprising certain leaders will continue to flirt with PAS to extend own political mileage. He mocked the gross ‘exemptions’ made for PKR in Selangor and DAP in Penang prove continued complicity with PAS.
David Ang reminded that both PKR and DAP are adamant in maintaining PAS representatives in respective state governments. He pointed out that 3 PAS exco members still sit in the PKR-led Selangor state government, while the DAP-led Penang state government did not revoke the appointment of sole PAS Permatang Pasir assemblyman Salleh Man as the president of the Islamic Affairs Council of Penang (MAIPP).
“Why PH did not discuss the ongoing cooperation with PAS in Selangor and Penang, why the double standards? If PH wants to stay clear of PAS, why they allow PKR and DAP to continue cooperation with PAS? Azmin Ali and Lim Guan Eng should explain their open defiance against the PH’s decision, members of the public can see the overt contradictions, it was not more than another deception to dupe the voters,” said David Ang.
