Gerakan Youth Legal Bureau Chairman cum Bukit Gasing state seat coordinator, Chai Ko Thing criticized the statement made by DAP’s Rajiv Rishyakaran on downplaying the achievement on the launching of the MRT yesterday. He said that the government is already planning to extend the MRT where the MRT Line 2 and LRT 3 projects are expected to be completed in the future as announced by the Prime Minister and it will integrated with existing public transport services.

“I agree that we cannot rest on our laurels as improvements will be needed in future as we can achieve much higher. However, by laying out pre-mature criticism on something that just launched is unfair to me. More time is needed for the MRT before we can make a sound and fair assessment.”

Chai added that the Federal Government kept its promises by investing in public transportation as it is crucial to improving the quality of life and economic vitality of the country instead of plain taking such as the MRT, the East Coast Railway Link (ECRL) among others. Whereas, the PKR led Selangor state government who relies on trivial destructive politicking and empty talk while the DAP led Penang state government is worse by spending millions of ringgit on the undersea tunnel and roads but has not bear fruit till today.

“Rajiv’s comparison on the feeder buses are inaccurate as London has a 400km of track with 270 subway stations while Hong Kong has 218.2 km in tracks with 161 stations. Hence the amount of feeder buses that we have is adequate to cater even peak hours.

“Plus, his price comparison is also inaccurate by saying that our end-to-end fares for the MRT costs RM 6.40 while similar fares on the Singapore MRT costs S$ 2.28 (RM 7.15) as comparison should be based on ringgit cost per kilometer instead of end-to-end which is misleading.”

Chai told Rajiv to do his homework before commenting and contribute constructively.

“This is the typical DAP attitude in response to the government’s initiative and his cynicism does not help in developing the country.”
