Residents of Damansara Perdana in Petaling Jaya staged a peaceful rally this morning to protest against construction of the Damansara-Shah Alam Highway (DASH).
The rally, which was organised by the Say No To DASH (SNTD) group, also saw the collection of signatures to petition the Selangor state government against the degazettement of the Sungai Buloh Forest Reserve to make way for the highway.
“All we are asking for is a realignment of the highway. Damansara Perdana doesn’t have space for such a monstrous structure,” said SNTD member Laveen Bala.
“We’ve had numerous meetings with the state government and we wrote letters to them. But to date, we have yet to receive any official response on the highway,” said SNTD spokesman KW Mak.
Another SNTD spokesman Alvin Chin said an advertisement by the Forestry Department calling for objections against the forest degazettement was the latest indication that construction of the highway would proceed, despite the state government saying that no approval had been given for the project.
The rally ended with residents sending mass text messages to Selangor state exco Elizabeth Wong and Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali with the message “Damansara Perdana do not want DASH. Realign now.”
