PORT KLANG: The Selangor government should ensure that the state’s water industry restructuring exercise is carried out following its revival, says former mentri besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

He said the exercise should be concluded as soon as possible to ensure sufficient and uninterrupted water supply.

“I have met Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili to know more about the development.

“I think the part where the ministry claimed that the state has yet to fulfil some Condition Precedents (CPs) in the Master Agreement was not an issue at all, because they have all been accounted for,” he said after a meet-the-people session with residents at Pulau Indah here yesterday.

Khalid said that there was no need for the state to obtain external financial resources to undertake the exercise, as its design warrants the necessary financial resources in the model.

“Both equity financing and the handling of debt financing are part of the entire restructuring exercise.

“I think this is good for Selangor. But, we need to act quickly to ensure continuous water supply,” he said.

Khalid noted that there should not be an issue for Langat 2 to be delayed because RM2bil worth of state water assets would be cared for by the Federal Government.

“The total value of the state water asset was RM11bil last year.

“There is no issue if you look at the two amounts,” he added.

Khalid, who was spotted at the PAS muktamar in Kuala Selangor earlier yesterday, denied that he would be joining PAS.
